I need a new router that can do IPSec and OpenVPN at ~350Mbit/s. Any suggestions?
@mhamzahkhan you'd probably be looking at building a PfSense box (or similar)...
Routers capable of 350Mbit/s on OpenVPN are expensive af otherwise.
@finlaydag33k Ah my googling suggested that using an x86 based machine would give the best OpenVPN performance, but I didn't really want to go down that route. Not that there is anything wrong with it, just that I don't have a lot of space for another machine. 😂
@mhamzahkhan Yea, X86 would be the best due to it's AES-NI capability.
I never really use "fast" and "OpenVPN" in the same sentence because it's inherently slow :p
WireGuard is a bit faster though due to using ChaCha20 (which uses ARX instructions instead of a lookup table) and being a generally smaller codebase but VPN is inherently expensive to run at high speeds.
